Privacy
NationFolio shows official statistics; it does not need to know who you are. You can use everything without an account. This page explains what is stored if you do sign in, and what happens when you load the site.
Questions or requests about your data: ask@nationfolio.com.
Without signing in
- Nothing about you is stored by NationFolio. There are no cookies, no analytics, no advertising and no session recording.
- If you change a setting or star a country, your settings and watchlist are saved in your browser only (its local storage). They never leave your device. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.
If you sign in with Google
Signing in is optional. It keeps your settings and watchlist on every device you use.
- What is stored: your name and email address, and your NationFolio settings and watchlist (the start screen, map mode and indicator, display options and the countries you starred). When you sign in, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with Base44, which runs the sign-in; NationFolio uses only your name and email address, and nothing else from your Google account is requested.
- Why: only to give you your settings and watchlist when you sign in, as you asked (the legal basis is providing the service you request, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Who can see them: you, when signed in, and NationFolio's administrator through Base44's administration tools. Other visitors cannot.
- Your sign-in is kept as a token in your browser's local storage, and Base44 may set a cookie that sign-in needs. Both are removed when you sign out.
- How long: until you delete them. In the profile menu, Delete my saved data removes your settings and watchlist at once. To delete your account itself (name and email address), write to ask@nationfolio.com.
If you write to us
The contact form only opens a new email in your own email app; the form itself sends and stores nothing. If you send the email, we receive what you wrote and your email address, and keep it as long as needed to answer you.
Services the site uses
Loading NationFolio makes your browser contact these services, which see your IP address as part of any web request:
- Base44 (Wix.com Ltd.): hosts the site, and runs sign-in and the storage of signed-in users' settings. Like any web host, it keeps technical logs of requests.
- Google: the Google sign-in page, if you choose to sign in; the web fonts (Google Fonts); and the mailbox behind ask@nationfolio.com.
- Cesium (cesium.com): the library that draws the 3D globe.
- NASA (gibs.earthdata.nasa.gov): the satellite and night-lights imagery on the globe.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the data held about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to its use, by writing to ask@nationfolio.com. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
